On November 25, 2024, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT) hosted the signing ceremony for the MOU agreement with Shinawatra University (SIU) of Thailand. The event marked a significant milestone in establishing a collaborative relationship between the two institutions, aimed at promoting educational programs, research initiatives, and international academic exchange. Under this agreement, the two universities will jointly implement linked training programs to provide students from both countries with opportunities to study in an international environment.

The ceremony witnessed the participation of representatives from Shinawatra University, including Assoc. Prof. Price Chow, President of Shinawatra University; Dr. Sun Jin, Dean of the Faculty of International Education and President of Global Association of Transnational Education (TNE Global); and Ms. Thao Tran, Associate Dean of Faculty of International Education and Vice President of TNE Global.

A standout feature of the agreement is the joint training programs between the two universities, covering Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in fields such as Logistics, Marketing, Accounting, and Finance. Students participating in the international joint bachelor's program between the two institutions can choose to complete the entire program at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT) over three years or opt for the transfer pathway, studying two years at HUIT and one year at Shinawatra University to receive an international degree awarded by Shinawatra University.

The international joint program will be delivered entirely in English by experienced lecturers from both universities. During their studies, regardless of whether they follow the 3+0 or 2+1 model, students will have the opportunity to study in Thailand, intern with local businesses, and explore Thai culture. Moreover, as part of the collaboration, the two universities will organize international conferences, offer scholarships to Master’s students, and jointly host high-quality study tours ranging from 7 to 14 days. These tours will enable Vietnamese and Thai students to exchange cultures and experience life in both countries.

Prof. Price Chow, President of Shinawatra University, expressed strong confidence in the potential of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade and committed to fostering long-term cooperation. He emphasized providing global learning opportunities for students from both countries through SIU’s network of partnerships with 30 universities and colleges worldwide. Both institutions share a vision to enhance education quality and promote cultural exchange between Vietnam and Thailand.
Following the signing ceremony, representatives from Shinawatra University toured the facilities of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade and discussed the next steps in implementing the agreed-upon activities. HUIT students will soon have opportunities to participate in exchange and research programs, broadening their horizons and engaging with international peers.
Shinawatra University (SIU) was founded in 1999 by former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Over its 23 years of development, the university has become a prominent institution in Thailand’s education sector and a trusted educational partner of international organizations in countries like Germany, the U.S., the UK, and China.
